Food collections
The food collection has become an integral part of our long-term support of local communities. Through the largest food collection in Slovakia, we encourage our customers to donate durable food and drugstore products to charities, but at the same time we also strengthen mutual solidarity and a sense of responsibility within the community.
Tesco is always proud to support colleagues and customers who are excited to help out as volunteers in stores, increasing the value of donations collected by 20% each year to the charities involved. So far, we have collected 897 tons of food and hygiene items through the Food Collection since its launch.
Who are we doing it for
All donations that customers hand over in our stores during the collection will be collected and sorted by volunteers from the Food Bank of Slovakia and other associated charitable organizations:Slovak Catholic Charity, Depaul Slovakia, Evangelical Diakonie ECAV Slovakia and OZ Vagus. Food is a valuable aid, thanks to which charities can provide nutritious food for people in need even weeks or months after the end of the collection.
“Thank you for your amazing help to Tesco and to all the customers involved. It is a huge project, on which hundreds of volunteers work for several months. Thanks to such projects, people in difficult life situations will have better Christmas holidays and winter months. From the donations, we can provide them warm food and basic hygiene needs, which is the greatest Christmas gift for many people in need.”

How you can help
During the days when the food collection is taking place, you will find volunteers in the stores near the food collection points who will be happy to help you and advise you on which products are suitable for donation or give you a recommended shopping list. The goods you buy to help people in need can be handed over to volunteers at the collection point.
You can also become a volunteer yourself and be part of the largest food collection in Slovakia. You can find more information on the websites of partner charities.
