Food Collection

The food collection has become an integral part of our long-term support of local communities. Through the largest food collection in Slovakia, we encourage our customers to donate durable food and drugstore products to charities, but we also strengthen mutual solidarity and a sense of responsibility within the community. Tesco is always proud to support colleagues and customers who enthusiastically help as volunteers in shops, and each year increases the value of donations donated by 20%, which it donates to the charities involved.

Who are we doing this for

All donations that customers give in our stores during the collection will be taken over and sorted by volunteers from the Food Bank of Slovakia and other participating charities: Slovak Catholic Charity, Depaul Slovakia, Evangelical Diakonia ECAV Slovakia and OZ Vagus. Food is a valuable aid, thanks to which charities can provide nutritious food for people in need even a few weeks or months after the end of the collection.

“Thank you for the wonderful help of Tesco and all the customers involved. It is a huge project that hundreds of volunteers have been working on for several months. Thanks to such projects, people in difficult life situations will have more beautiful Christmas holidays and winter months. We can provide them with hot food and basic hygiene supplies, which is the biggest Christmas gift for many people in need.”

Secretary General of the Slovak Catholic Charity Erich Hulman

How can you help

During the days when the food collection takes place, you will find volunteers in the stores at the food collection points, who will be happy to help you and advise you which products are suitable for donation, or provide you with a recommended shopping list. You can hand over the goods you buy as help for people in need to volunteers at the collection point.

You can also become a volunteer yourself and be part of the largest food collection in Slovakia. More information can be found on the websites of partner charities.
